What Are Sequences Of Nucleotides That Control The Production Of A Protein.

What are sequences of nucleotides that control the production of a protein.

A gene is responsible for production of a protein molecule.

Gene has several nucleotides of which each set of three nucleotides called a codon codes for a specific amino acid.

Production of a protein molecule is thus controlled by start and stop codons.

▪ Start codon: AUG is the sequence of start codon and cods for methionine (Met) in eukaryotes and formyl methionine (fMet) in prokaryotes.

▪ Stop codon: There are 3 stop codons. Sequences are: UAG, UAA, and UGA. These dont code for any amino acid and facilitates detachement of t-RNA.
